ABSTRACT

This chapter presents statistics relating to entrepreneurship divided by gender and age group. It explains age and entrepreneurship in Sweden. Entrepreneurship is on the top of political agendas all over the world and has been for several decades. It is presented as a solution for contemporary societies, while age is presented as a problem and has many negative connotations. Both in politics and research human beings are often divided into three groups: children, adults and old people. In entrepreneurship research the labor market is often surprisingly absent. Health and working conditions are important as individuals make their decision whether to stay or leave the labor market. Official ages for retirement often mark an end-point for discussions on age and the labor market: pre-retirement situations are currently the focus of much research and statistics. Some studies focusing on incentives register differences between women and men. That women may have more economic incentives than men is also stated in official reports (OECD).
