Is the novel dead? Perhaps David Bowie has the answer. Well, a caked-up version of Bowie surfacing inside the contemporary novel, specifically Dana Spiotta’s Stone Arabia (2011). It is my intention, in this chapter, to explore why twenty-first century literature is using David Bowie to take the novel apart, and perhaps ultimately create a mourning song for it-one that is dressed not in black, but in glitter.
