'What did I say?': speaking, listening and drama

The relationship between oracy (speaking and listening) and literacy (reading and writing) is central to language and literacy teaching. Talk is at the core of learning. The National Curriculum for Speaking and Listening refers to developing talk for different purposes and audiences. When a teacher uses drama to create contexts for talk, the range of contexts, purposes and situations is without limit and the wide range of types of talk required will challenge children’s creative use of language.
