ABSTRACT

When Commerce Secretary Herbert Hoover made this statement at the Third National Radio Conference in 1924, he was describing a chaotic industry. The number of radio stations on the air continued to increase, though few frequencies had been allocated for broadcast use. Hoover had designated 833kHz for broadcast use in 1921 and added 750kHz in 1922. By 1923, the band was expanded to include frequencies from 550kHz to 1350kHz. Every channel was filled and there was considerable interference among stations.
