ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION One of the fascinating aspects of the last year has been how my attempts to get closer to the children’s learning have given me a greater understanding of myself, not just as a teacher but as a learner . . . The children and I have, in a sense, been travelling along the same road. They and I have both been engaged in the same process of taking time to stop . . . to stop and talk about, to stop and look at, to stop and reflect on the work we are involved in. That taking time to stop and look has, I think, given me insights into the children’s learning; given the children insights into and consciousness of their own learning, and given me insights into my own practice as a teacher.
