ABSTRACT

For Emmanuel Lèvinas, the Greek language are doubtlessly a necessary tool to translate the antique Talmudic wisdom. Philosopher's task is to "express in Greek those principles about which Greece knew nothing. Jewish peculiarity awaits its philosophy". Lèvinas will very soon realize how important this problem is: how talking about time forces one to take into account the vocabulary, corpus and the whole array of issues he intended to criticize. In the decades that saw the development of Emmanuel Lèvinas thought, the investigation of subjectivity-as-subjection and subjectivity-as-absolute-hostage was a constant and by no means his marginal preoccupation. In 1978 Lèvinas published a rigorous philosophical commentary on that work contained in the text entitled "In the Image of God". Lèvinas always admired Heideggerian analysis of the "Word of Anaximander" on presence of the present. The logic of narrative introduces the natural order on which human temporality depends.
