Diversifying Teacher Education at a Predominantly White Institution: A Public Scholarship Framework

UD’s awareness of the demographic imperative was heightened by its reaccreditation process in 2011 by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The Middle States report indicated that the university lagged behind its peer institutions in nearly every measure of diversity, criticizing especially its poor retention and graduation rates of students of color. In response to this report, the university funded activities that foster diversity on campus, including the creation of the Collaborative.
