As discussed by many authors in this volume, body shame can have major impacts on the development of self-esteem, social behaviour and vulnerability to psychological problems (Gilbert, Chapter 1, this volume). This chapter explores the special problems associated with bowel diseases in children and adolescents and some of psychological interventions for helping children adjust to their condition.
