Creative Acceptance: An Ethics for AIDS

ByRev. Bernard Brown

C urren t ethical principles seem to be inadequate for the problem s associated with AIDS. Perhaps a simple, new structure o f hope is need ed — an ethic in which the person with AIDS creatively accepts him self1 as still growing; m ore over, the la rger com m unity actualizes its integrity and its bonding by ac cepting and supporting the persons with AIDS. Searching the past Christian experience in providing hospitals for the dying, the new ethics described here proposes two points o f acceptance useful for all people willing to move beyond denial and to spark concrete ethical progress.
