Use of Axes III, IV, and V
The comprehensive nature of the DSM multiaxial system is in tended to complement and facilitate the collection and organization of clinical information and the resulting implications for treat ment. These underlying notions form an important framework within the diagnostic process, especially for child psychiatry, that will influence future study and knowledge. In addition to Axes I and II diagnoses, evaluation of medical or physical conditions on Axis III completes the diagnostic formulation. Additional information gathered on Axes IV and V complement the diagnostic evaluation.
