Diagnostic Interviews and Rating Scales

Many interview and behavior rating instruments have been devel oped for clinical research and the evaluation of children and adoles cents. Since the first edition of this Guide, scales have been developed or improved for a variety of areas. The time-honored home and classroom ratings for hyperactivity have been extended to include adolescence (Conners, 1985). Newer scales now cover Mood Disorders and Eating Disorders. In addition, several special ized scales for Pervasive Developmental Disorders and ObsessiveCompulsive Disorder reflect recent treatment research on these conditions. Increasingly, clinicians are supplementing clinical inter views with either structured interviews or appropriate rating scales (e.g., the Conners rating scales of hyperactivity).
