Christaller's Central Place Theory
Since 1933, when his book on central places in southern Germany was published, many writers have praised and criticized, reformulated and expanded parts of Christaller's theory. Today very few accept all aspects of his work, but they realize that it stimulated some of the most advanced scientific work in geography. The following summary of the rudiments of central place theory is included here in order to acquaint the reader with the meaning of some of the terminology prevalent in urban geography today - a termin-
ology introduced into our literature by those dealing with Christaller's work. Hopefully this will be a reference when reading about urban geography.
