CONCLUSION: NAMIBIAN INDEPENDENCE AND

WithSOUTHERN AFRICA

The analysis of regional dynamics in the decolonization of Namibia suggests three related questions. Is a focus on south ern Africa regional actors, in addition to the South African colonizer, necessary for the understanding of Namibia's decolonization from 1945 to 1990? How complete was Namib ia's political decolonization, as Pretoria continued to claim South African sovereignty over the port and surrounding terri tory of Walvis Bay as well as twelve off-shore islands in the south of Nambia? How important was Namibia's independence for further political developments in the region, in Angola and South Africa in particular?
