Long, long ago, as there were not these unseemly cursings that move God to righteous indignation, when they were not heard at all , the blessing of God was upon our dear land. For I remember that when I was a boy a kohol of wheat sold for eight forints not just in one year but more, and yet so plentiful was grain that more could not have been desired; men brought many gold thalers from abroad for our wheat, our produce, and I saw them with my own eyes, and even played with them as a boy. Countless people fled from hunger to our dear land, and God's blessing was upon it, and it was both wealthy and populous ; but since unseemly cursing against God has come in, consider well, land of Transylvania, to what need and hardship you have been reduced!
