ABSTRACT

The Service English Unit (SEU) is starting a new project, with the English Language Teaching Projects Unit of the British Council, funded by the Overseas Development Administration (ODA) of the UK. This project will assist SEU for three years with the provision of a teacher-specialist, a small yearly budget for travel and

materials, and also a scholarship. There is a further allocation for equipment in the first year. SED has only been in operation for a year, with staff drawn from the Faculty of Letters. A few courses have been run, but the average attendance was low. The aim of the project is to run a specific pre-departure course for future scholars on a marine science project funded by the Asian Development Bank.
