Triangulate and Expand: Using Multiple Sources of Data for Convergence and Expansion to Enrich Inductive Theorizing

ByElizabeth D. Rouse, Spencer H. Harrison

In this chapter we focus on the use of multiple sources of data in inductive, qualitative data collection and analysis, and we present a four-step process for data triangulation and expansion, as illustrated in Figure 27.1. We have two goals in this chapter:

1. We want to encourage scholars to provide evidence of data triangulation by showing, in their findings sections, examples from the multiple data sources they describe in their methods sections, thereby providing a wider window for their data “to speak.”
