Burnout and health

According to the World Health Organization’s definition (1946), health is more than the absence of diseases. It is “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being.” Partly because this concept is difficult to operationalize in research designs, there is a long tradition of studying the effects of work life using emerging health problems as the outcome rather than indicators of well-being.
