Psychology education and training in Latin America: an overview

ByMARIA REGINA MALUF

Introduction Latin America was given its name for reasons dating back to the nineteenth century. This region covers an area of around 21,000,000 km2 with a population of approximately 500 million. It is made up of countries from South America, Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico, and is washed by the Atlantic and Pacifi c oceans. According to my sources, it includes 24 countries, although some other sources mention 20 or even 32 countries depending on how the different political organizations of the countries are considered.1
