Introduction to psychology education and training: a global perspective
Why concern ourselves with psychology education and training (PET)? The simple answer is that we have a responsibility to enable the education and training of the next generations of psychologists for careers in academia and practice. Educators have a proactive obligation to ensure that future psychologists are prepared to deal with the sustained changes in societies and cultures which present new challenges for psychology’s composition and outreach. The ‘we’ in the second sentence refers initially to the editors and authors of this book, who have a shared commitment to the many issues of psychology education and training addressed here. All are scientists and/or representatives of organizations concerned about what defi nes psychology, whom it serves, and how the next generation of psychologists should be prepared for the opportunities that await them.
