ABSTRACT

Large microform collections must be either highly subject-specific so that a library can buy the collection to support graduate research in that subject or they must be so large and general that they will significantly strengthen the general resources of even the largest research library. The realization that a large microform collection must be highly structured, properly indexed, and, if possible, accessible through the online catalog. Large collections have been accessed through printed catalogs. The contracts are rather contrived and again complex, but they are based more on trust and good faith than on tight wording. All the books microfilmed in The 19th Century Microfiche Project have UKMARC format cataloging in the United Kingdom, and LCMARC cataloging available on OCLC and Research Libraries Information Network. Librarians do not want large microform collections without cataloging!.
