Angry, Abandoned Husbands: Assessment and Treatment
The resurgence of the women's movement of the past two decades has had a major influence on the North American family . Although the divorce rate is now beginning to stabil ize (Robbins, 1 982) , marital separation continues to be a major social phenome non. With increasing career options for women as wel l as beginning societal sanctioning of autonomous strivings, increasing numbers of unhappily married women are opting to leave their marriages . Many of their husbands have a subjective sense of abandonment and are i ll-prepared to cope with the "narcissistic injury" (Rice, 1 977) that this type of separation entails. These men are the subject of this paper.
