ABSTRACT

SUMMARY. Law librarianship is international although international law library experience is normally gained away from one's own legal system. The author, who has law degrees from both New Zealand and Zimbabwe, changed to law librarianship whilst living in South Africa. Her legal training in two very different legal systems enabled her to use the tools of law in both systems. Having become very comfortable in the African environment, the author returned to her country of origin, which now felt like a foreign jurisdiction. She details the journey of leaving the known, leaving security, and finding people she knew would help. She shows why moving outside the square is mandatory for your professional life.
