chapter  4
The European presence in global financial governance: a principal–agent perspective
ByDaniel Mügge
Pages 20

How strong is the European voice in global financial governance? While the role of European Union (EU) bodies in international financial forums has received little attention to date (but see Bach and Newman 2007; Mu¨gge 2006a; Posner 2009), the credit crisis starting in 2007 has shown how much is at stake. This paper analyses what it defines as the ‘European presence’ in global financial governance, examines how it has been influenced by different patterns of policy-making delegation from member states to supranational bodies, and traces variation in such patterns to underlying causes.
