ABSTRACT

This article will consider the benefits and challenges of using various online technologies to provide legal research instruction. Individual technologies will first be evaluated independently of each other, since any of them could be used to supplement traditional face-to-face research instruction, or even to replace less formal types of instruction such as guest lectures or library tours. Consideration will then be given to special problems of teaching a graded legal research course entirely or predominantly online. We conclude that using online technologies to teach legal research has many practical benefits, especially for teaching the Millennial generation of learners. However, there are also potential pitfalls a legal research teacher should explore before making a commitment to teach wholly or partly online.
