ABSTRACT
Morals are standards for right and wrong, and ethics is the study of morals. In some contexts these terms can be used interchangeably. Ethical theories offer principles for the assessment of human behavior, and provide the guidance needed in many instances of decision-making and policymaking. The modifier “normative” in the title of the next section indicates that these theories refer to the way things should be, not necessarily the way things are.
