The population of Myanmar in 2011-12 was estimated at 60.38 million. The life expectancy at birth is 60-64 years. The average life expectancy for urban males and females is 65.8 years and 70.8 years, respectively. And the average life expectancy for rural males and females is 64.3 years and 67.8 years, respectively (Ministry of Health, Myanmar, 2013). According to UN Statistics for 2008, as cited by the WHO (2011), the literacy rate is 96 per cent for men and 95 per cent for women. In Myanmar, neuropsychiatric disorders are estimated to contribute to 9.2 per cent of the global burden of disease (WHO, 2011).
