ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to investigate whether vulnerable workers are subjected to poorer work health and safety conditions than their counterparts in better safeguarded and protected job positions. The wide spectrum of information available suggested data might be most appropriately analyzed using synthetic data tools. Increased focus of European policies on safety at work has led the European Union (EU) to introduce legislative measures aimed at improving health protection in the workplace. Community strategy on health and safety at work 2002-2006 translated the entire regulatory structure developed in previous years into a framework law designed to implement in full the efforts made in this field through a significant improvement of conditions in the workplace. The dimension of the sample is nearly 77,000 households, representing 175,000 individuals who are resident in Italy, even if they are temporarily abroad. Households usually living abroad and permanent members of communities are not included.
