ABSTRACT

Both concepts urban governance and urban management are commonly misinterpreted, however used complementarily could offer a wholesome approach to resolving urban problems. This chapter presents the relationship between urban management and urban governance, and the way these two concepts are commonly misinterpreted. To present analyses of how urban management techniques are implemented in Slovenian cities, at the same time ranking them to EU cities. It could be that studies of urban governance are impinging on the urban management literature, which is why we will devote the next section specifically to the relationship between urban management and urban governance. When discussing urban government in Slovenia we are actually explaining municipal polity. The chapter focuses on urban management and the intertwining relationship between urban management and urban governance, urban governance itself should not be neglected.
