ABSTRACT

Lasco held the Holy Scriptures to be the ultimate spiritual authority and it was within this important text that the key for reformed rituals could be found. Lasco was a Polish reformer and theologian who was an active Protestant church organiser during the 1540s and 1550s a time of increasing confessional tension in Europe. The Polish reformer rejected the traditional Roman hierarchy with its bishops who, he claimed, had held too much power over other ministers and over the faithful. Lasco's close adherence to the apostolic model also can be seen in his prescriptions for the Lord's Supper in the Forma ac ratio. The importance of the apostolic model for Lasco also can be seen in his prescriptions for ecclesiastical discipline and excommunication. Lasco wrote they are like the senate of the entire church, which maintains the true religion and enforces ecclesiastical discipline.
