ABSTRACT

Capacity building is an increasingly used phrase in the jargon of international development. This phrase is normally used in terms of building capacity at the macro level of a country towards economic development. Capacity is here used in terms of the private sector building market capabilities. There are a number of international organizations such as the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and country specific agriculture and food agencies that have been looking into private sector capacity building and the benefits of organically produced products. There is also the niche global marketing aspect of organic produce.
