ABSTRACT

The way a project team is set up and functions is fundamentally different from a team working in operations. The project team’s assignment consists of turning the initial intangibility of a project into reality. Considering the project team as a temporary group helps us to visualize why the right development of the group is one of the key factors in the project’s success. The concept of life cycle for a temporary group was developed in the work of R.D. Laing who provides an analysis of group dynamics and helps us to understand the inner mechanisms of project teams, which are subconscious and highly emotional. Concepts, such as a part or transitional object, are helpful to create a methodology for a temporary project group’s management and merit in-depth exploration.
