ABSTRACT
In the literature, international human resource management (IHRM) has three meanings:
the study of human resource management (HrM) in the multinational corporation (MNC);
comparisons of HRM practices across different cultures;
national studies of HRM in particular countries, for example, Japan, France (sparrow et al. 2004).
Whilst recognizing that any MNC-focused explanation of IHRM must take account of the different cultural and national contexts in which it operates, this chapter takes as its framework the first of these.
