ABSTRACT

Life, just a few short decades ago, was relatively simple and stable. The conditions were so benign that we could get away with reactivity and even passivity. However, globalization, scientific advancements and technological innovations, among other advancements, have reduced the physical distance to connect socially with others to no further than our computer screen. This connectivity is thrusting extreme pace of change in the way we live, communicate, socialize and work. We can beam almost instantaneously through the social media networks – YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc. – our pleasurable or nasty experiences at leisure, shopping and work and what we are observing and experiencing such as the floods in Queensland, Australia and the political protests in Egypt. Such changes have a great impact and alter our socio-cultural, environmental, economical, geopolitical landscape.
