ABSTRACT

The issue of energy was a major cause of the creation of the G7 summit in 1975. With the challenge of climate change added as early as 1979, the subject has remained on the summit agenda, with increased attention and action since 2005. The major democratic powers needed to coordinate efforts to confront the challenges of ensuring security of energy supply, introducing energy-saving and energy-efficient technologies, and governing energy to help meet their economic, environmental, and security goals. The G7 and G8 summit has enabled them to do this effectively.
