ABSTRACT

The relationship between Turkey and the European Union (EU) has a history of more than five decades, and the ‘journey’ is not over yet. Since the 1996 customs union (CU), the trade relations between Turkey and the EU have reached a high level of integration. Although the customs union was meant to be provisional from the beginning, the continuation is still unclear. The accession negotiations started a decade ago, but the process slowed down and has been in a near stalemate since 2010.
