ABSTRACT

Concern and context Human beings live with two great vulnerabilities. One is that we will destroy all or most civilizations by accidental or intended thermonuclear explosions. A second is that we will destroy the fragile elements of the biosphere through our purposeful pollution of essential elements for life in our extravagant use of fossil fuels and nitrogen. As noted by ecologists, economists, and cosmologists, ‘Earth can live without us. We cannot live without Earth’ (Korten 2014:14, Swimme and Berry 1992).
