ABSTRACT

Different than other regions of our world that discovered electroacoustic music just a short while ago, composers and researchers from Latin America have not only been aware of it since its origin but were widely contributing from the very beginning (for example, Mauricio Kagel composed eight electroacoustic studies in Argentina between 1950 and 1953). This chapter focuses on sharing a broad range of initiatives and projects attempting to serve as an approach to some of the activities being developed in the Latin American region as well as outside its borders by Latin American creators and researchers. Latin America has always been a major contributor to the electroacoustic music world, with many compositions, concerts, radio series, recordings, publications and also technology innovations produced for decades. Today the activity is impressive, in quantity and quality: from sound art to electroacoustic music, from visual music to interactive sound installations, and more. Latin America not only has creators, researchers and innovators, infrastructure and equipment, but also a large audience attending to most of these activities and projects, something that we know is not always easy to achieve.
