ABSTRACT

Meta-analysis results revealed larger effect sizes for cognitive-behavioural stress management interventions than relaxation, organizational, multimodal, or alternative interventions. In sum, numerous factors contribute to the mixed findings demonstrating the efficacy of stress management interventions. The small effects found among psychological outcomes were not statistically significant and suggest that the stress management interventions do not have an effect on the psychological outcomes that were measured in the studies. Providing stress management interventions to employees is an example. Examples include biofeedback, self-help groups, meditation, muscle relaxation techniques, exercise, diet, and improving communication skills. Blau acknowledged numerous types of stress management interventions for law enforcement personnel. Ackerley described the development of a physiological and psychological stress management program. Sarason focused on nutrition and stress prevention describe a Stress Management Program designed with the goal of increasing awareness of cognitive and physiological reactions among recruits that result from responding to situations involving anger and threat.
