ABSTRACT

Following the 1963 popular uprising against the Shah’s regime in Iran, three University students founded MEK (Mujahedin e Khalegh (People’s Holy Warrior)) or PMOI (People’s Mujahedin Organisation of Iran) in 1965 as a guerrilla organisation, with a mixed ideology of Islam and Marxism, to fight against ‘the Shah’s dictatorial regime, American Imperialism and Zionism’.
