ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on sexualities in the context of migration and more specifically on how religion influences views on abortion and homosexuality in the migration space in complex ways. It looks at Poles who have arrived in the United Kingdom (UK) since May 2004 and their attitudes, both to abortion and homosexuality and their perceptions of the differences in approaches to these dimensions of sexuality between Poland and the UK. The chapter discusses the sexuality as being socially and culturally constructed, as well as being invoked through the cultural values, beliefs, institutions, and ideologies of the society. It outlines abortion and homosexuality contexts in both Poland and the UK. The chapter explains a qualitative approach and in-depth interviews were utilised as a data collection method. It shows the Church's efforts to try to influence discourses on sexuality, only some Poles subscribe to conservative discourses, whilst many hold liberal views.
