ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with some of the issues researchers face when trying to represent young people’s religious and spiritual beliefs. Our reflections are based on experiences in the field and draw particularly on my work with 11–23 year old young people in educational settings and youth clubs (Collins 1997; Savage et al. 2006) and Phil Rankin’s work with teenagers and young adults in public places (Rankin 2005). Some of the issues we discuss are pertinent to any research on religion; some are more specific to the practicalities of working with young people.
