Introduction A legal system that respects and protects the liberty of its citizens should protect the liberty of both sides in the dispute over same-sex marriage. That is, it should protect the right of samesex couples to marry, and it should also protect the right of churches, synagogues, mosques, and other religious organizations not to recognize those marriages.
