ABSTRACT

The rapidly changing environment for organizations, the global marketplace, and sweeping social and political change make organizational learning essential for survival. The Chief Executive of a company which has experienced decline and renewal in a stormy environment is definite about how the company has achieved its growth: 'Learning is at the heart of a company's ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment'. The Learning Organization has been defined as 'an organization which facilitates the learning of all its members and continuously transforms itself, as 'an organization that is continually expanding its capacity to create its future', 'and where people are continually learning how to learn'. Being a Learning Organization implies major structural and cultural change. Reflective learning can be achieved by small groups and individual managers can seek to inspire it within their locus of influence even if the overall organizational culture is not sufficiently supportive to be a Learning Organization.
