ABSTRACT

Christianity was the major religious presence with 33.2 million people. Paradoxically, the United Kingdom is becoming at once both increasingly multi-faith and, at least so far as it's nominally Christian majority is concerned, increasingly secularized. Depending on their place of operation, charities are ultimately accountable for their activities to the charity commission for England and Wales (CCEW), to the office of the Scottish charity regulator (OSCR) or to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland (CCNI). However, very small charities do not have to register while, under the provisions of the Charities Regulations 1996 as amended by the Charities Regulations 2012, certain churches in England and Wales continue to be excepted from the duty to register with the CCEW until 31 March 2014. In the United Kingdom the practice of religion is a private law matter.
