ABSTRACT

Taking the religious approach, the chapter introduce the concept 'ethics of sensitivity' as an analytical frame for understanding a new work ethic based on a quest for employees' sensitivity, work on the self, and on prospects for self-realization as a way to flexibility and productivity. The cultivation of the individual's inner emotional life is a practice whereby modern management and New Age theories give way to the establishment of the ethics of sensitivity. This chapter suggests that an understanding of personal development courses in business life and in organizations, as framed in modern religiosity and often described as 'New Age', is important. Along with business counselling and other alternative methods such as fire-walking, meditation and Landmark, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) competes in a market where services such as leadership training and courses in personal development are offered to companies and organization.
