ABSTRACT
The true cosmopolitan takes care of the individual and defends the individual against all repression by the state or other political actors who behave like a state, which considers itself as the foundation of all social values and all human rights. Thus, the only way to overcome peacefully the major crises of our time in economy, mutual cultural understanding and protection of nature is to think and act according to the cosmopolitan story. In that sense cosmopolitism is individualism, it follows that the cosmopolitan world order does not abolish plurality; on the contrary the cosmopolitan order is what the French philosopher of law Mireille Delmas-Marty has called an 'ordered plurality'. There are today other big problems than that of ensuring free commerce in the world. It is also a big problem how to control financial speculation on the global market and to protect everybody's right to work and to have a home.
