ABSTRACT

The resulting Thunder, Lightning, Strike is a sampledelic, cinematic fantastic soundtrack in search of a screenplay. Before becoming a Team, the Brighton-based band's beginnings were as a homemade hobby rooted in the solo sound-tinkerings of Ian Parton, a Discovery Channel film documentarian. The album's expansive sonic palette is chaotic, but controlled, its convergence conjuring feelings of summer and school spirit; Kung Fu and cowboys; jump ropes, junk yards, and gymnasiums; double Dutch and Drumline. The production is comprehensive and cluttered, but orchestrally cohesive. The music, film, and sound samples are more clearly cited in the liner notes of the US version of the album. The Go! Team is an impressive, imaginative group of audio archival rearrangers and abstract expressionists. Sound clips from their songs 'Get it Together' and 'Ladyflash' are part of the US's National Public Radio's rotation segueing segments and bedded under promos for popular programs such as Terri Gross's cultural interview forum Fresh Air.
