ABSTRACT

The rapid development and provision of the right products to medical institutionsand patients is a key role of the pharmaceutical industry. The ‘right product’ willdepend on a number of circumstances which will affect how appropriate a product is to a particular patient. This includes satisfying an unmet medical need amongst patients, providing patients with prompt relief from a condition in a manner which results in fewer side-effects than their currently available treatment, improving their quality of life, providing a more patient-friendly product or developing a novel concept to treat the patients’ condition. Furthermore, the company may benefit if its product opens up a new market.
