ABSTRACT

This chapter explains and illustrates three methods, namely source assessment, source correlation and hypothesis trees, which help to structure and document the process of transformation of the source material into 3D visualization. It discusses the different approaches to 3D visualization in research and public presentations. A tool for the management of the interpretation process is presented. The aim is to propose a methodology and tool for making 3D visualizations of the past sustainable and open to peer review, and to turn them into an instrument that is accepted in both research and public presentation. This Interpretation Management or InMan tool is part of the EPOCH Common Infrastructure that provides concrete tools and solutions for common problems in the cultural heritage domain. The chapter explains the goals and approach of The London Charter, and demonstrates how the InMan tool can be used to implement these goals.
