ABSTRACT

This research examined the phenomenon of building tall in suburban communities in the United States. It investigated the geographic locations, spatial patterns, and distributions of tall buildings in 24 suburban communities within 3 major regions: Washington, D.C., Miami, Florida, and Chicago, Illinois. The study explored possible sustainable spatial patterns to integrate tall buildings in future developments beyond the city core. It also investigated community development, architectural design, and site planning aspects that could help make tall building developments more sustainable and resilient. The overall goal of this research was to assess the role of tall buildings in accommodating future growth in metropolitan regions.
